The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist. (Catechism 1322)
The Sacrament of First Communion or Eucharist is offered to all baptized children in 2nd grade who have completed at least one year of religious education (1st grade SASEAS, PREP, or approved home school program) prior to enrolling in the First Communion Formation Program.
First Communion is celebrated as a parish with all students preparing together in a group setting. The Sacrament of First Communion will be celebrated during the Easter season regular Saturday/Sunday Masses. Each parent with a child enrolled in one of the above religious education programs will receive a letter in the early fall with instructions and calendar for our formation program which will also include First Reconciliation.
Our Formation program is based upon the philosophy that parents are the first teachers of their own children! With parish guidance, parents and children will work together through lessons in a combination of parish gatherings and at home lessons. This will also foster a journey of sharing your faith experiences with your child.
If for any reason your child missed the 1st grade preparation year or if your child missed the Sacrament of Communion in 2nd grade, please call Kathy Bitzer 831-3353 so that we can determine the best plan of action for your individual situation. Do not wait until the beginning of the school year to make the call; in some instances the preparation can be made up during the summer.
Communion for the Sick and Shut-Ins:
Call the Parish Office and arrangements will be made for someone to bring the Eucharist to you at your home.
