CHILDREN'S SACRAMENTS

FIRST RECONCILIATION

"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."

(Acts 3:19)

We are all given the grace of forgiveness when we celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This Sacrament of First Reconciliation is offered to children in second grade who have already completed at least one year of religious education. Formation for the Sacrament will occur either within the SASEAS classroom or at our monthly Sacrament classes as part of the Family of Faith Program.

First Reconciliation is celebrated as a Parish. In keeping with the philosophy that parents are the first teachers of their own children, our Reconciliation retreat brings together all 2nd grade students and their parents in preparation of the Sacrament in an experiential setting.

Each family with a 2nd grade child enrolled in one of the above Religious Education Programs or who is registered in the parish will receive a letter in the early fall with instructions and a calendar for our formation program. A separate registration for our Sacrament formation program is required in addition to your child's attendance in the school or parish religion program. A link will be provided for Sacrament registration at the appropriate time.

FIRST COMMUNION

"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.”

(John 6:54)

At every Mass, the priest repeats these words by which Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, and by which the bread and wine become the true Body and Blood of Christ for us today.

Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my Body, which will be given up for you.

Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,

which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

The Sacrament of First Communion or Eucharist is offered to all baptized children in second grade who have completed at least one year of religious education. Preparation includes the above mentioned First Reconciliation formation prior to being formed for Eucharist. With parish guidance, parents and children will work together at our First Communion retreat prior to the reception of the Sacrament. First Communion will be celebrated during regular Saturday/Sunday Masses. which are typically scheduled in May. Your child’s attendance in this program is in addition to the parish's religion class requirements.

If you have not officially registered in the parish yet,

please contact our office so that you are included in the fall mailing.

If for any reason your child missed the 1st grade preparation year or if your child missed the Sacrament of Reconciliation or Communion in 2nd grade, please call Lori Anne Fothergill at 513-688-3155 or lfothergill@stveronica.org so that we can determine the best plan of action for your individual situation. Please do not wait until the beginning of the school year to make the call; in some instances the preparation can be made up during the summer.
